Elliot Galvin - The Ruin

Elliot Galvin is an award winning composer, pianist and improvisor. His work is predominantly concerned with the incorporation of improvisation and the use of eclectic juxtapositions of sound in a variety of environments and contexts.
His critically acclaimed trio has released four albums to date, The Influencing Machine being named one of the 2018 Albums of the Year in both Downbeat and Jazzwise magazines. He won the prestigious European Young Musician of the Year Award in 2014.
A prolific sideman, Elliot has toured internationally and recorded with Shabaka Hutchings, Marius Neset, Mark Lockheart and Laura Jurd's renowned quartet Dinosaur.
As a free improvisor he has released albums with musicians such as Mark Sanders and Binker Golding and his entirely improvised solo piano album, recorded in Paris, was named The Guardian's album on the month and one of BBC Music Magazine's albums of the year in 2020. Elliot has been commissioned to write for several prestigious ensembles and festivals including London Sinfonietta, Ligeti Quartet and Aldeburgh Festival.
He also works as an audio artist, displaying installations at the Turner Contemporary Gallery and, more recently, as part of the Oxford Ideas Festival and Oxford Contemporary Music 2022.
The Ruin, to be released in February 2025, is Elliot's most personal album to date, written on his childhood piano and inspired by the bleak yet beautiful landscapes of his hometown. The music flows freely between serpentine piano and modular synth lines, weaving and colliding around ephemeral vocalisations and deceivingly groove heavy percussion. Guest musicians on the album include Ruth Goller (bass and vocals), Sebastian Rochford (drums) and Mandhira de Saram (violin) who complete the band for this concert.
